The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded on March 1, 1868 at the Unviersity of Virginia by six brothers: Robertson Howard, Julian Edward Wood, James Benjamin Sclater, Jr, Frederick Southgate Taylor, Littleton Waller Tazewell (Bradford), and William Alexander. Founded on basic brotherly principles, the fraternity struggled in its early years to find membership, and eventually was refounded at the Hampden Sydney Convention in 1889 by four brothers: Robert Adgar Smythe, Jr, Theron Hall Rice, Howard Bell Arbuckle, and John Shaw Foster. Upon refounding, the fraternity began to grow. We eventually expanded at the New Orleans Convention of 1909, and now are one of the preeminent farternities in the world. With hundreds of chapters worldwide, the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity continues to grow in meaningful and positive ways.

Today we are as strong as ever. Founded on October 12, 1928, the Gamma Kappa Chapter was the ONLY chapter founded in 1928. Our chapter has seen many important activities happen. During the second World War, one man lived in the Pike House and kept it alive. That man was Merrill Burlingame. His picture hangs in our trophy case, as do numerous awards for community service, philanthropy, intramurals, and campus recognition. Holder of the Intramural All-Sports trophy 2 of the last 3 years, we pride ourselves on the excellence and standards that our founders held so dear. Many of our alumni are now businessmen, lawyers, doctors, and teachers. Gamma Kappa is proud to welcome you to our website, and remember, "Once a Pike, Always a Pike!"
